The sixth edition of the Arouca Rafting Summit, held from January 13th to February 6th, once again confirmed Arouca’s leading role in Portuguese rafting sport. Set against the winter backdrop of the Paiva River, the event successfully combined adventure, inclusion, competition and professional development.

The program opened with an inclusive rafting descent for young people with autism spectrum disorders, promoting the sport as an accessible and socially impactful activity. High school students from Arouca and Escariz also took part in dedicated rafting experiences, strengthening their connection to the region’s natural heritage and raising awareness about environmental preservation.

A particularly meaningful moment was the celebration of 30 years since the first rafting descent on the Paiva River with members of the media — a milestone that highlighted the evolution of rafting in the municipality and its importance to the local identity.

The competitive highlight came with the 2026 Portuguese Rafting Cup – Open, which delivered excitement and high-level performances. Talaias (CN Crestuma) claimed first place, followed by ADA1 (AD Amarante) in second. AMC1 (A Marão C) secured third place, while VetBala (CN Crestuma) finished fourth. The race once again showcased the growing strength and technical level of Portuguese rafting teams.

More than just a sporting event, the Arouca Rafting Summit continues to strengthen the region’s reputation as a premier destination for nature and adventure tourism, where sport, sustainability and community engagement flow together. Check out Arouca's website and Facebook page above for more!
