United Rafting GTE Conference begins in L’Argentière-la-Bessée
The United Rafting Guide Training & Education (GTE) Conference officially began today, 5 October, in L’Argentière-la-Bessée, France, bringing together instructors and representatives from the international GTE community.
The Conference was opened by Mark Hirst, GTE director who has coordinated the GTE transition process, together with United Rafting President Danilo Barmaz, who welcomed participants and formally opened the three days of work.
This first GTE Conference under United Rafting comes at a key stage in the process following the merger of the former IRF and WRF structures. Before defining and launching a unified United Rafting GTE framework, the Conference has been conceived as a working forum where the two communities can compare their existing systems, technical approaches and experience in guide training and certification.
The objective is not to replace the existing GTE system, but to strengthen it with new ideas, shared experience and a renewed commitment to passing knowledge and skills on to future generations of guides. Over the three days, participants will work on technical standards, certification, education and the organisation of the international GTE structure.
With the opening of the Conference, voting has also officially begun for the election of the GTE Commission.
Eligible participants can now cast their votes among the admitted candidates. The election will establish the new GTE Commission, which will represent the GTE community and contribute to the development and management of the system within United Rafting.
The election results will be announced on Wednesday, 7 October, from 10:30.
