On June 16, 2026 the European Continental Assembly of World Rafting convened electronically to officially elect the continent's new representative governing body. With 28 eligible National Federations, the meeting achieved a 21.4% turnout featuring active representation from nations including Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Great Britain, Italy, Slovakia and Serbia. 

Addressing the delegates President Danilo Barmaz highlighted Europe’s immense strategic importance within the international paddle sports community, noting the continent's history of hosting major World Championships and its significant contributions to technical expertise and athlete development. Barmaz also shared key global updates, announcing that the federation's administrative registration in Switzerland is nearing completion and expressing excitement for the upcoming World Cup in Val di Sole - Italy, as well as the continental events in Sagana - Kenya. 

In the landmark election Mr. David Katsarava (Georgia) was elected President of the European Continental Council with 100% of the vote. Bringing over 25 years of outdoor sports experience, Katsarava was celebrated for transforming the sport in Georgia and organizing top-tier international competitions including European Championships 2017 and National Open events. He emphasized a platform built on teamwork, mutual support and the ultimate vision of securing Olympic recognition for the sport. 

The assembly also elected a powerhouse team of Council Members who bring diverse expertise to the leadership group:

Ms. Elena Bragastini (Italy) secured 100% of the vote, leveraging her elite experience as the Head Coach of the Italian national team to advocate for para-rafting opportunities, improved accessibility, and the highest standards of athlete safety. 
Mr. Aleksandar Pastir (Bosnia and Herzegovina) drew on 25 years of experience organizing World Championships and National Open competitions, heavily emphasizing the urgent need to protect river environments and oppose harmful dam projects. 
Ms. Beth Kirby (Great Britain), an elite athlete at the World and European levels, will focus her mandate on developing a structured continental race series. 
Mr. Fermin Perez Larrea (Spain) rounds out the newly elected council, bringing further regional representation and expertise.

By addressing regional priorities head-on the newly formed European Continental Council is set to elevate the competitive, environmental, and educational standards of white-water sports across the continent.
