It is time to turn the international whitewater spotlight toward the Eastern Himalayas as Boleng, Arunachal Pradesh, prepares to host the marquee event of the season: the 2026 Asian Rafting Championships. From October 5th to 9th, the continent's elite paddlers will descend upon the Siang Valley, ready to test their mettle on the unforgiving waters of the River Simang.
Surrounded by landscape of untamed wilderness and rich heritage, Boleng offers a proving ground like no other. The River Simang, a formidable Class III+ tributary of the legendary Siang River, promises to deliver high-volume and free-flowing action.
October 6th: The stage is set with the official Flag Parade and Opening Ceremony at 04:00 pm, transitioning straight into the crucial Heads of Delegation Meeting.
October 7th: A pure race against the clock. Sprint action dominates the morning from 10:00 am, setting the early pace before the 04:00 pm Medal Ceremony.
October 8th: High-stakes, head-to-head combat. The RX Knock-out Phases hit the water at 10:00 am for Para-Rafting and Mixed, followed by the Women and Men at 02:00 pm, where a single mistake can end a championship run.
October 9th: The ultimate test of precision and finesse. Slalom competition runs from 08:00 am, culminating in the final Medal Ceremony at 05:00 pm to officially crown the champions.
Shaukat Sikand, President of both the Asian Rafting Council and The Indian Rafting Foundation, emphasized the event's role in celebrating athletic excellence and forging bonds across borders. Nino Dai, President of the Arunachal Pradesh Water Sports Association, echoed this sentiment highlighting the state's proud legacy of hosting major events, including the National Rafting Championships.
