The 2026 Asian Rafting Championships are officially heading to Arunachal Pradesh. From October 5 to 9, the Siang River in Boleng will see Asia's top whitewater athletes face off on one of India's most respected stretches of whitewater. Known for heavy water and complex rapids carved into the Himalaya, the Siang demands serious technical skill and crew synchronization, firmly putting the region on the map as a global hub for rafting.
Getting a venue of this scale race-ready takes heavy lifting behind the scenes. This week in Boleng the Asian Rafting Council and the Arunachal Pradesh Whitewater Sports Association (APWSA) hit the ground to lock in the logistics.
Asian Rafting Council President Shaukat Sikand and APWSA President Nino Dai, alongside Vice President Nyumli Yigam and General Secretary Atu Kartek, met with local officials to build the event framework. The coordination meetings brought in key regional figures, including Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, Minister Ojing Tasing, and Director of Sports Gumnya Karbak.
The focus of the preliminary site visits was clear: aligning local infrastructure with international safety and technical standards. The teams scoped out the competition venues, mapping emergency access routes, finalizing transportation logistics, and confirming athlete accommodations.
Crucially, the local DSWS Youth Wing stepped up during the meetings to present their plans for community coordination. They will be leading the local volunteer efforts, a strong reminder that great whitewater events are built by the river communities that host them.
